Police said they initially received a call at 3 a.m., of a group of kids trying to break into a vehicle on Big Piece Road. They were then seen heading toward Horseneck Road driving a red sedan, police said.

Officers attempted to stop the vehicle, but the vehicle refused to stop and a pursuit ensued, police said. Due to the high speeds and concern for public safety, police said they terminated the pursuit. The red sedan soon crashed in West Caldwell, police said

Three kids were taken into custody after the crash, police said. Officers determined the car they were driving was stolen, police said.

West Caldwell police then received calls about three other juveniles banging on residential doors near the crash site. An investigation revealed they were also in the stolen car and they were arrested.

The six juveniles were charged with receiving stolen property, resisting arrest, conspiracy, burglary and possession of burglary tools, police said. Five of the kids were released back to their parents, while one was remanded to the Essex County Youth House in Newark, police said. One of the juveniles had a court-ordered monitoring device him at the time of his arrest, police said.
